Hello friends! Happy Friday! One perk of being an old married lady (tee hee hee), is having a little bit of free time previously occupied with wedding planning. One of my great joys is reading. I will read ANYTHING. You cannot leave literature of any kind around me. I once read a pamphlet on the benefits of gastric bypass surgery. This is Hollywood, after all. HAHA. Anyhow, I digress.
About two days ago I decided to start reading again. What a joy! I decided to start slow, choosing a very fluffy read. I ended up picking The Starter Wife, a book I had been holding onto for AGES, but never got around to reading.
The Starter Wife is about a woman who thinks she is in a happy Hollywood marriage (is there such a thing?) until her husband asks for a divorce (over the phone!!!!). Now, I enjoy a fluffy read from time to time, but most of the time I am VERY disappointed in the content. This was definitely better than most summer reads. The plot was pretty well thought out, the characters were charming and the story line moved quickly. She started losing me at the very end (what a cockamamie ending!), but by then I had already enjoyed the book.
One thing that may be a concern for some readers, the book was set in Los Angeles and Malibu and there were a lot of references that I believe could be lost on people not from our area. Other than that, if you have a plane trip to take or vacation planned, I would read it! It's cute.
Muffy's Book Club Rating: 6/10 (A lovely vacation from real life)
Next up on my list: Cheerful Money: Me, My Family, and the Last Days of WASP Splendor, Tad Friend

I read this a few years ago and thought it was really cute! The original Starter Wife miniseries on USA(?) based on the book was pretty good, although they tried to extend it to a regular series last year and I thought it went downhill.
What a great idea, a book club type idea. This is on my reading list too.
Here's an idea, how about a book a month. We all read it and then come back and discuss it, just a thought? I LOVE to read!
I'm going to have to try it...I read books a lot, but I don't have any on my list right now!
Oh Muffy I can't wait to hear what you think of Cheerful Money.
I have been devouring books lately. A good date with hubs is a glass of sparkling wine and a good book in bed. I lived in BH for about 5 years so this book might be up my alley.
I read this book and it was GREAT! You're going to love it!
Good to know, I've looked at that one a few times and have yet to pick it up - perhaps on our next vacation I'll give it whirl! Love the story of how the author herself almost went through the exact same scenario!! :)
Loved the Starter Wife! Debra Messing is fabulous! XO
I agree! Great book, awful ending!
